As the name suggests, these are road bikes with a rim height of 45 mm. These and other parameters place it in the category of very versatile wheels that are fast on the flats, but at the same time won't hold you back even on steep climbs, thanks to its low weight - 1435 g. An internal rim width of 19 mm, an external width of 28 mm, aerodynamic spokes and the most sophisticated tubeless system on the market are other details that complete this functional unit. But to uncover what's truly special about these bikes, let's dig a little deeper.

Mavic Fore Carbon technology

The most fundamental innovation that the carbon rims have undergone is the implementation of a unique tubeless system, which we already know from some of Mavic's aluminum models. Fore Carbon technology uses external nipple mounting, which maintains the integrity of the inner wall of the rim. When using a tubeless system, there is no need to install a tubeless tape. This system brings several advantages. First, the entire rim is stiffer, which contributes to better power transfer and at the same time, the user is spared all the worries associated with using tubeless tape, which is completely absent here. And life is a little simpler again.

If you prefer the classic system with a core, there is nothing stopping you in this case either. Another nice step is the use of wires of the same length for the front and rear wheels, which helps with trouble-free orientation when replacing them if necessary. Mavic went even further in development and thanks to the Infinity hub design, the wire can be replaced without removing the wheel from the frame/fork, you don't even have to take off the tire or dismantle the cassette or disc.

Ammunition in a new guise

The new design called Infinity catches the eye at first sight. But what positives does it actually bring? On the one hand, technologies that have proven themselves in the latest generation of Mavic wheels are applied, such as the Mavic ID360 double-ratchet nut system and the maintenance-free QRM Auto automatic bearing clearance system. What makes the new cartridges truly exceptional, however, are again the details.

Improved aerodynamics

As for the biggest enemy of speed, namely air resistance, this is where the rim profile with the NACA designation comes into play, which also guarantees high stability in crosswinds. Wind tunnel testing has shown that ideal properties are achieved in combination with 25 mm wide tires. The border width is then the exact intersection of those two numbers, i.e. 52 mm.

And there are even more subtle details. Innovation didn't even escape the nipples. They have a rounded shape and are twice the diameter of what we have seen before. This innovation has only a minimal impact on aerodynamics, but it offers a sleeker shape than its predecessor.
