Fulcrum Wind 57 DB 28" wheelset, tire, disc, solid axle, carbon
With the latest 42 and 57 mm versions, the Wind range is Fulcrum's answer to the modern cyclist looking for versatile and high-performance wheels that guarantee a unique riding experience.
Designed to balance performance and comfort, the Wind 42 and 57 guarantee maneuverability and versatility. In fact, the new wheels are not only intended for road use, as they can also handle light terrain, making them ideal for gravel bikes as well.
The new model of Wind braided wheels is based on the Speed model, which are mainly focused on performance. The Wind 42 and 57 adopt many of Fulcrum's patented technologies to offer a superior ride experience compared to the previous generation.
Handling is improved by 22% and reactivity by +10%* on these versatile and comfortable wheels.
Among the most obvious changes are the rims, which have been increased in height to 42 and 57 mm, with an internal rim width of 23 mm. The graphics have also been completely redesigned and reflect the new brand identity of Form Function Fulcrum with a minimal yet refined design that includes new icons that provide all the technical information about the product directly on the rim.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Rims
Wind rims are taller and wider than the previous generation. At the same time, the overall weight was reduced thanks to a new mixture of carbon fibers and their storage inside the mold.
The previous 40 and 55mm versions have been replaced by 42 and 57mm versions with a 23mm internal rim width that provides better support for the wider tires that are trending now, thanks to improved performance in terms of rolling resistance and comfort.
The rim design is identical to the Speed 42 and 57, while the mix of carbon fibers used changes. The Wind range uses the FF80 mix, which has allowed weight savings of an average of 100 grams per pair compared to the previous Wind generation.
The front of the rim has also been widened to a 9.5mm radius, improving both aerodynamic performance and overall handling.
The patented DRSC™ (Directional Rim-Spoke Coupling) system is used in the construction of the rim. A specific plastic support is embedded in the carbon near the nipples to provide greater system stiffness and durability, spread nipple stress over a wider area and prevent potential galvanic corrosion situations.
The inner channel of the rim has no holes thanks to our MOMAG mounting technology, which allows a 2-WAY FIT™ tubeless rim without the need for tubeless rim tape, and the presence of a traditional hook ensures maximum compatibility of all inner tubes.
The internal finish of the channel is obtained using C-LUX™ technology, which is polished to ensure easy and optimal installation and settlement of the shell. Part of the graphics is applied by laser directly for a modern look and then supplemented with reflective stickers to increase visibility in poor lighting conditions.
Of course, tire and rim pairing is at the discretion of the rider and varies by bike configuration and terrain type. The new Wind range allows the widest possible selection of tires, from 25 mm to 45 mm. We recommend tires from 28 to 30 mm for exclusive road use and between 32 and 35 for riding on mixed surfaces.
Spikes and hubs
Constant long-term performance of the wheels is guaranteed by the use of stainless steel spokes Ø 2.0, 1.8, 2.0 with self-locking aluminum nipples.
The spokes have been entwined with the Two-to-One™ system, which doubles the spokes in areas subject to greater stress and prevents energy dissipation and contrasts torsional force. The beams cross on both sides, but never touch each other to avoid friction and deformation, so the mechanical properties do not change over time.
The forged hub ensures greater mechanical resistance to various forces. Sealed bearings work on an integral axle that can be adjusted with a preload ring nut to minimize wear and guarantee exceptional smoothness.
The nut system has been strengthened and enlarged so that it now contains 36 teeth. Wheels are available with Campagnolo N3W, Shimano HG and Sram XDR freewheel bodies.
