The activation key is an essential part of the AVABAG avalanche system. The key is used to set the system to standby mode. At the same time, with its help, it is possible to check the readiness of the system before the hike and to try shots in the dirt.
Practice shots in the dirt
Canadian avalanche researcher Pascal Haegeli reports that 12% of people who carried any avalanche systems and were buried died because they failed to activate the unit properly. This led ORTOVOX to the idea of repeatedly trying to activate the system without the need for a bomb. So you can train in the dirt and be sure that you will know exactly what to do when the worst happens.
You can stretch the needle of the activation unit and repeatedly try to pull the handle correctly. The activation key is included in the package or can be purchased separately. When you activate "blindly" you will hear the pop of the fired needle and you are sure that you are doing everything correctly.
- Choose a bomb.
- Stretch the needle with the activation key.
- Put on your backpack.
- Set the correct position of the handle to the height of your figure.
- Adjust the backpack and tighten it tightly (waist belt, shoulder straps, secure the safety strap).
- Pull the handle.
