The Birdie is a compact single belay with an assisted brake for belaying a first-time climber or via a "top rope" (for a fish). The entire construction of the BEAL Birdie guard is made of metal. Internal connecting parts + dynamic cam and friction hammer are made of stainless steel to increase service life. The rope passes in the axis of the guard - so there is no twisting of the rope when it rubs over the edge, as is the case with other manufacturers. The BEAL Birdie is compatible with single dynamic ropes from 8.5 mm diameter (BEAL Opera) to 10.5 mm (BEAL TopGun). The belay is secured with the help of a connecting carabiner only after the rope has been established. Therefore, it is not possible to open the fuse during operation
