Boot bananas were developed by Alex and her partner Phil - a climbing instructor. Boot Bananas was born out of their desire to get rid of Phil's smelly boots and climbing shoes for good.

It is... banana!
Just as they moved into their first apartment together, the problem with Phil's climbing frames could no longer be hidden. They tried everything on the shoe deodorant market, but nothing worked on Phil's climbing shoes. So in the end, Phil and Alex decided to fight the shoe odor themselves. Alex decided not to use any chemicals, so together with Phil, they developed their own powerful mixture of naturally deodorizing salts, minerals and natural perfumes. Alex was tasked with designing the optimal shoe- and climbing-friendly shape.

The moment she started combining her ideas with the yellow cotton coating, the idea was there, and Boot bananas were born. Once Phil thoroughly tested the functionality of the Boot Bananas, other fellow climbers jumped in to test it out. Phil's and Alex's apartment suddenly became a factory for "bananas" and the apartment was scented with lavender.

The fruits of their labor
Phil and Alex made around 8,000 Boot Bananas for their mates, friends, acquaintances, friends of friends from home the following year when in 2013 they got an offer to team up with the Troll outdoors brand. Today, Boot Bananas are manufactured by their dedicated team in Skipton, North Yorkshire.

How to care for Boot Bananas? When not in use , store them in the plastic packaging in which they are sold, but never put them in this packaging wet. The contained active ingredients could not dry out and their effectiveness would be lost. From time to time, let the "bananas" dry in the sun or near a heat source. Do not expose your "bananas" to the cold. If you leave them in the car overnight in cold weather, let them dry the next day preferably in the sun.
How do you know it's time for a new one? Active ingredients tend to turn brown over time. This happens especially with frequent and active use, when "bananas" regularly absorb moisture from your shoes. Once the Boot Bananas start to lose color, it's time to get new ones. With regard to effectiveness, we recommend replacing them no later than 6 months, but if you do not take care of your Boot Bananas according to the above recommendations, it is possible that the interval will be shorter.
