Mountain Equipment Xeros jacket, medieval blue
The development team of the Mountain Equipment brand was inspired by the experience of the best alpinists in the world to create a minimalist insulating down jacket that offers maximum protection at the lowest possible weight.
A significant distinguishing element from all other down jackets is the additional external GORE-TEX® INFINIUM™ membrane that covers the individual chambers. It protects the feathers from moisture and creates another insulating layer. An unrivaled element of the XEROS JACKET is its hood, which offers unprecedented protection and warmth.
New technology, better thermal insulation
The XEROS JACKET is the younger brother of the KRYOS JACKET model. It has the same protective effects against the elements, it has the FIRESTORM construction, the same perfect hood, but the weight of the XEROS JACKET is reduced, making it more suitable for universal use in European conditions for mountaineering and ski touring. The FIRESTORM construction has a significant impact on the thermal insulation of the XEROS JACKET. Tests in cold chambers have shown that it is 20% warmer than the FROSTLINE JACKET model. High water resistance predestines this jacket for areas with quite worse conditions such as Scotland or Patagonia.
● GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ 10 D protects against the weather and increases the insulating properties of the jacket.
● The jacket has a FIRESTORM™ construction, where the outer membrane fabric covers all the chambers, creates an additional thermal insulation layer and protects against the weather.
● Classic quilted chambers with minimal weight.
● 140 g (large L) of goose feathers in a ratio of 90/10 and a filling of 800 cuin.
● Super Alpine HC Hood with internal EXL® stretch seams. It is fully adjustable and helmet compatible.
● Two-way YKK® zipper lined with inner feather lining for minimal heat loss.
● Two insulated hand pockets, two chest pockets and two large inner pockets.
● GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ 10 D surface material on the inside of the hood, the ends of the sleeves and the lower hem of the jacket.
● Elastic hems at the ends of the sleeves.
● Drawstring waist. Separate cord for pulling the front and back parts, so that there is no danger of getting caught in the carabiner when you attach it to the material eye of the seat harness.
GORE-TEX® INFINIUM - settle for only the best
Unsurpassed so far, GORE-TEX® INFINIUM™ protects against any moisture thanks to its durable, light, extremely breathable and rain-resistant membrane. A very light surface material with 10 D fiber fineness in combination with a reliable PTFE membrane at a weight of only 38 g/m2 will perfectly protect the feathers from any moisture, whether in snow, fog or light rain. Thanks to this, the feathers always maintain a high loft for maximum thermal insulation.
The best goose down on the market - 800+ fill
800 cuin goose down from Eastern Europe is the best down available on the market. It contains at least 90% down and each batch is individually tested to meet the 800 cuin fill and to meet all the conditions of the ethical DOWN CODEX®.
Goose feathers are gently cleaned with water without chemical treatment. This destroys the mites and the environment for their life, which is especially appreciated by allergy sufferers. The feathers retain their important fatness and loft, are packable well, have high insulation and low weight.
● 140 g of goose feathers (size L).
● Minimum capacity of 800+ cuin.
● Down ratio 90:10
● Complies with DOWN CODEX®.
● Long service life.
● Each product with feathers has a unique code, under which you can find the origin of the feathers and its parameters.
● A comprehensive and transparent system for auditing the origin of feathers, from all brands and anywhere in the world.
● In Mountain Equipment products, feathers are always only a by-product of meat or egg farming.
FIRESTORM construction
The innovative construction of down jackets increases thermal insulation and resistance to water and wind, especially in the seam area. Those in standard quilted down jackets often leak heat. You can imagine the FIRESTORM construction as a down jacket, which is covered by one more separate layer of membrane fabric attached only in the most important places.
A cooling chamber and infrared cameras were widely used to develop the FIRESTORM design. Combined with test results from alpinists who took prototypes to the highest mountains, the British developers managed to fine-tune this down jacket construction to the last detail.
The best "Super Alpine HC Hood" + EXL
Fully adjustable hood, helmet compatible and protected from the inside by a GORE-TEX® INFINIUM™ waterproof membrane. The feathers stay dry even if snow falls into your hood. Most heat escapes through the head, so it must be perfectly protected. Therefore, the FIRESTORM construction is used on the hood as well as on the entire jacket. In addition, the jacket also has a high collar and stretch seams on the inside of the hood, which help to wrap the head perfectly and do not let any heat escape. The drawstrings of the hood are sewn into the channels so that they don't bother you in the wind.
Really warm, really light
XEROS JACKET is not the warmest down jacket, but when comparing thermal insulation properties and weight, it is the top of its class. At a great 510 g, you get a really precisely processed and very warm down jacket, which should not be missing in the equipment of a modern alpinist.
