Garmin Varia Rearview Radar is a reverse cycling radar. It is able to detect an approaching vehicle from behind and alert the cyclist to it in time. According to available statistics, most accidents involving cyclists are caused by a car crash from behind. The Garmin Varia cycling radar may be the last to warn you of a collision!
In the past, there have been attempts to equip the bicycle with rear-view mirrors or to detect the noise of an oncoming vehicle, but similar equipment has its limitations. Garmin Varia Rearview Radar Reverse Radar is able to detect the car well in advance and not only warn the cyclist himself in time, but also by increasing the intensity of the rear, warning, light and the driver of the approaching car.
The Garmin Varia Rearview Radar features a rear bicycle light with a built-in radar. The radar rear light detects an oncoming vehicle up to 140 meters behind the cyclist and increases the light intensity as the distance between the vehicle and the cyclist decreases.
When paired with a compatible Garmin bike computer located on the handlebars, it is able to simultaneously display up to 8 approaching cars and draw attention to their distance. As the distance decreases, the radar display highlights the increasing risk by changing the color of the display. Garmin compatible bike computers: Edge 1000, Edge 520, with software update also Edge 810, Edge 25 and Edge 510.
