Among the typical functions of this series are control using buttons, an excellent readable color display, compact dimensions, reliable functionality in all weather conditions.

Garmin Edge 530 offers the display of detailed maps, the possibility of loading additional maps into the cycle computer's memory and calculating the route to the destination based on the map in the memory. Compared to the older versions of the Edge 5XX, the new model offers improvements in the form of compact dimensions , low weight and a 13% larger display compared to the previous Edge 520 model. The new display offers a higher resolution in addition to a larger diagonal.

Edge 530 can use external wireless ANT + and Bluetooth sensors.
It is thus possible to connect a heart rate sensor, a speed / cadence sensor, but also a wattmeter (e.g. Garmin Vector), a cycling radar (Varia Radar) or also a cycling "head-up" display Varia Vision (all optional accessories) or smart cycling the lights. When connected to a wattmeter, the cycle computer is able to measure performance parameters such as VO2max, FTP (functional threshold power) and, in the case of using the Garmin Vector Double wattmeter, the balance of the left / right leg or separate evaluation of sitting and standing riding.

The built-in barometric altimeter with automatic GPS calibration takes care of accurate height measurement
The cycle computer is equipped with Bluetooth and the possibility of connecting to a smart phone (iOS, Android, Windows Phone), from which it is able to receive SMS messages, calls and other notifications , as well as the weather forecast or use it for data connection with the training server. A smartphone is still just an accessory for a cycling computer, and the Edge 530 works to its full potential even without the presence of a phone.
Compatible with STRAVA segments, which it is able to record in its memory, draw attention to them on the track, show a comparison with the leading times during the rides, and record the achieved result in the STRAVA leaderboard after the ride
Safety functions have also been improved, traditional ones include the possibility of connecting a bicycle radar and monitoring vehicles coming from behind or automatic accident detection and sending a message to pre-set emergency contacts
Newly available is the FIND MY EDGE function, which helps to find a lost cycle computer in the event of an accident or loss, or the BIKE ALARM function, which warns of unwanted movement of the bicycle when, for example, you stop for a snack
