Manitou Research and Development (MRD) spent nearly two full World Cup seasons testing and perfecting the ultimate XC fork under elite athletes, with the prototype camouflage keeping the fork hidden in plain sight. Since its first iteration, the fork has been securing podiums on the world stage. In other words, what started as an initial test ended up as a successful project that created the most complete XC racing suspension package available. Curious minds had no idea that under the interesting packaging was a compromise killer: the MANITOU R8.
  • ACE/DEUCE – TOTAL SMOOTHNESS OF HANDLING - Creating the next level of reliable, lightweight and extremely performance-oriented front suspension required developing a fork that would perform in all situations and could easily adapt to diverse terrain and circumstances. Manitou have worked hard to produce a premium level remote system to give the rider complete control over the suspension. While the R8 will still have a manual controller option, it's most likely that most XC riders will prefer the remote solution. The combination of ACE and DEUCE is a remote fork lift lock (so-called Lockout) manufactured by Manitou, which controls the fork, shock absorber and telescopic seatpost. The Ace lever controls the seatpost, while the Deuce lever controls both the fork and shock. The two levers are stackable and can be built into the configuration that is most comfortable for the biker. In other words, Ace can be placed above or below Deuce and can also be placed as a separate lever.
  • Air spring - Dorado Air w/IVA: As the name suggests, this is a spring derived from the legendary Manitou Dorado downhill forks. It can elegantly and precisely balance the air pressure between the positive and negative chambers during fork inflation thanks to the balancing valve. This gives the fork a consistent feel without any flat or dead spots in the stroke.
