Polartec® Alpha® is an amazing insulation, it is soft, flexible and light. A few years ago we thought it would be great as a base layer, but it tended to feel wet and sticky on the skin. But when we were looking for better insulation for sub-freezing driving, we tried using it on the Alpha® prototype as a second layer on top of the Prosecco base layer - and there we discovered the best combination for driving in the cold.
We worked on the details to create this second layer for frosty rides. We used a half zip so it doesn't create bulk on the lower torso and we sewed the zip slightly off center to avoid multiplying the number of zips at the neck. We've kept the fit close to the body, so you have the choice of tucking it into your trousers or leaving it loose like we do. We've found it works well on the Flanders, Bandito and Miracolo base layers as well.
